Lawford (Dedham Vale)
Converted Barn in the heart of the Stour Valley
Robins at Marsh Barn offers self catering accommodation in Manningtree. Set in the conservation area of Dedham Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Robins is a converted barn in a lovely 2 acre garden by the River Stour. Accommodation, for 2 or 3 people, consists of a beautifully furnished studio (20x15), separate bathroom and well-equipped kitchen.
There is a croquet lawn, 200yds river frontage, outside dining area & parking at front door. The garden gate opens onto a riverside path to Flatford Mill (3 miles) & Dedham (4 miles) in one direction and in the other to the little town of Manningtree (10 minutes walk), with its beach, sailing club & several excellent restaurants.
This is a bird watchers paradise with an RSPB reserve across the river. Visiting species have included spoonbill, pelican, osprey & American dowitcher. There are resident egrets.
There is excellent coarse fishing to be had just 5 minutes walk from Robins.
Colchester (20 minutes by car) is Britain's oldest recorded town with Roman Walls, a Norman Castle & fine zoo. The Beth Chatto gardens are close by. Not far away is Sutton Hoo. There are many enchanting towns such as Lavenham & Kersey. A 25 minute drive will take you to Frinton on Sea, Walton or Clacton. There are excellent theatres in both Colchester & Ipswich (20 minutes by car).
This part of East Anglia has so much to offer to so many people you will find yourself spoilt by choice.
